GM! Carl · Skill Lab · Winter season · Jan 6 to Mar 17

Bring a task you do by hand. Leave with an AI skill that does it.

Skill Lab is one live hour online. You bring a task you keep doing over and over, and you leave with written instructions that get your AI tool to do it your way, every time. It is for anyone who does a repeat task at work, from any background. No coding, and no experience needed.

What is a skill?

A skill is a set of written instructions your AI tool (like ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot) follows the same way every time. Think of it as a recipe card for a task you repeat: when to use it, the steps to follow, and how to check the result.

After that, you just ask for help with the task, and your AI follows your recipe instead of guessing.

How a Lab runs

Every Lab follows the same one-hour plan, the one I first ran at MeasureCamp Chicago.

  1. 01
    Learn it10 min

What a skill is, in plain words, with a real one from my studio. No experience needed.

  2. 02
    Share your task5 min

You send your task when you get your seat. I pick the ones we build live from what people send, and we look at them together.

  3. 03
    Watch one get built10 min

I take one task from the room and write its skill live, explaining every choice.

  4. 04
    Build one together10 min

The room picks a second task and tells me what to write. I only type what you say.

  5. 05
    Build your own15 min

You follow the same 5 short steps with your own AI tool, on your own task. I help each person with one fix.

  6. 06
    Try it out loud5 min

Two or three people try theirs live. They ask their AI tool for help with the task, and it follows the skill.

  7. 07
    Keep it5 min

You leave with your skill. Send it to me and I may feature it on gmcarl.xyz/skills.

There is no set topic. Each Lab is built from the tasks people send in when they get a ticket, so the room decides what we build.

Receipts and invoices, sortedA pile of receipts or invoices turned into a neat list, with the odd ones flagged.
Meeting notes into next stepsMessy notes in, a short list of who does what by when out.

Before your Lab

Why me

I run my whole studio this way. Nineteen skills help me make the videos, the lessons, the captions and the calendar, and you can read them at gmcarl.xyz/skills. I first taught Skill Lab at MeasureCamp Chicago, and the lessons are on YouTube.
